Maple Sugar Cookies

The thought of combining maple syrup and cookies sounded absolutely scrumptious. And these cookies did not disappoint!

What you need:

For the cookies: 

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 3/4 cups all purpose flour

For the icing: 

  • 1/4 cup heavy cream or milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 3 tbs. pure maple syrup
  • 2 to 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar

Recipe Review:

So the actual name of this recipe is “Soft Maple Sugar Cookies” and I was honestly a little disappointed the first day. They were definitely more of a crunchy cookie. I had made them to bring to a party though and everyone there absolutely loved them! The flavor was amazing, they were just not the consistency I was hoping for. The next day, I decided to try them again and it was like a totally new cookie. Over night the middle of the cookie became so soft! I think maybe if I had let them sit longer to begin with they would have had that consistency the first time I served them. But over all this was a great recipe! I liked the cookies better the next day, but everyone else loved them the first day too!
